- She's a wealthier individual, I'm a scholar, penning down her experiences with Farin Holiday, as expressed by Jenny Elvers.
Over the upcoming weekend, "The Doctors" are scheduled to perform in Berlin yet again. Not just any location, but at the Tempelhof Airport's former grounds, with an estimated 60,000 spectators. And they're not performing for one night, but for three consecutive days.
This renowned band, formed in 1982 and led by main surgeons Farin Urlaub and Bela B, alongside Dr. Rodrigo González for the past three decades, has long dominated the German rock scene. It's astonishing, then, that they've managed to keep their personal lives largely hidden from the public eye.
One of the few known facts about Bela B, a.k.a. Dirk Felsenheimer, is that he has a son. As for Jan Vetter, alias Farin Urlaub, his past relationship with actress Jenny Elvers was public knowledge many years ago.
Jenny Elvers: "No one knew"
In an upcoming episode of the NDR talk show "Deep and Clear", airing in September and currently available in the ARD media library, Elvers shares some intriguing details about her relationship with the musician. According to her, she met the eight-year-older singer in the 80s while she was still in school, around 17 or 18 years old. "Still within the realm of normal," she assures. Urlaub was her "first boyfriend," she reveals, despite their four-year relationship remaining secret at the time: "No one knew." She met him "classically at a concert" during their "Westerland" tour peak. Despite the challenges, they managed to stay in touch, communicating through a long, orange phone and writing letters to each other.
Farin Urlaub lived with Jenny Elvers' family
Elvers goes on to reveal that when "The Doctors" disbanded, Urlaub moved into her childhood bedroom. The main challenge wasn't the age difference, but their vastly different life situations: "I was in school, he was at the peak of his career, freshly separated from the band. He was a millionaire with plenty of time, I was a student. And this wasn't in Berlin or anywhere else, but in the Lüneburg Heath, in Amelinghausen, in my childhood bedroom, with my parents, my little brother, and my grandmother still living in the house." This arrangement lasted for a few months until Urlaub bought a house nearby, allowing Elvers to move out of her childhood bedroom and into her own home, marking her transition to adulthood.
Elvers only has positive things to say about Urlaub in the interview. She describes him as "well-read, very intelligent," from whom she learned a lot. She also confirms that she loved him deeply, which is why their relationship remained private: "I never wanted to become famous through any man." Initially, she felt insecure about what she could offer him, but her growing fame as the "Heidekönigin" helped her gain confidence.
Later, Elvers gained fame in films like "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and "Knallhart" or the comedy series "Nikola," but she also appeared in various reality TV shows. Among her high-profile relationships after her divorce are Dieter Bohlen, actor Heiner Lauterbach, and rapper Thomas D of the Fantastic Four. With Alex Jolig, a participant in the first "Big Brother" season, she has her only child, a son born in 2001. She was married once, from 2003 to 2014, to her former manager, Goetz Elbertzhagen.
