Fire - Seven people injured in fire in Konstanz Old Town
In a fire in the Old Town of Konstanz, seven people have been lightly injured. A spokesperson for the Police stated that they likely suffered from gas poisoning, among other injuries. The fire broke out in a house that was partly used commercially and partly as living quarters. Several adjacent buildings were also evacuated. The spokesperson made no comments regarding how many people had to leave their apartments.
Initially, it was reported that 17 people were injured, one of whom was seriously injured. The Police corrected this number in the morning.
The affected area in the Old Town is extensively cordoned off. The cause of the fire was initially unclear. The extent of the damage was also initially unknown. The historic Old Town of Konstanz is located near the shores of Lake Constance and is popular with tourists.
The Police in Baden-Württemberg, where Konstanz is located, are investigating the cause of the fire in the Old Town. Due to the emergency, traffic in the vicinity of Constance has been temporarily diverted. The German Red Cross has set up a temporary shelter for the evacuated residents in a nearby community center.
