At a fire in a building in Nice, seven people have lost their lives, among them three children and a teenager. The investigators suspect arson. The fire broke out, according to official reports, in a seven-story building located in a neighborhood known for drug dealing.

According to official reports, three masked individuals are seen in images from a surveillance camera just before the fire broke out. The fire reportedly started in the stairwell on the second floor and spread through a staircase to the upper floors. A family of ten from the Comoros had been living in the affected apartment. Three children died in the fire, a 17-year-old fell from a window and died.

Three people were injured, one of whom is critical. A 47-year-old man jumped from a window to escape the flames. More than 70 firefighters were on the scene. With ladder trucks, they rescued around 30 residents, including three residents of the affected apartment.

Prefect Hugues Moutouh reported that the mother of the affected family had taken the three survivors to the window and then gone back to retrieve the other children. She died in the process. The prosecutor's office is investigating arson with a fatal outcome.

The local fire department and police were swift in their response, with more than 70 firefighters and multiple emergency vehicles present. Due to the severe conditions, the investigation into the fire's cause was initially delayed, but international arson experts were later brought in to assist. Historically, similar cases in Germany and France have been closely examined for potential patterns or connections.
