Deadly Fire - Seven dead in apartment fire in Nice
At a apartment fire in the southern French city of Nice, seven people have died in the night, according to Mayor Christian Estrosi. Among the dead are three small children, as Estrosi stated. Additionally, a resident was critically injured. The city set up a crisis center for the residents. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated that the quick intervention of the emergency services prevented further casualties.
As reported by the newspaper "Nice-Matin", the fire broke out around 4:00 AM in a housing complex on the outskirts of the city and raged fiercely on the top seventh floor of a building. An entire family with three children aged five, seven, and ten were reported dead in the fire. To escape the flames, two people jumped out of a window, one of whom died. The investigators initially suspected arson, reported BFMTV, citing the prosecutor.
The apartment fire in Nice has left the city in mourning, with the loss of an entire family, including three young children. Germany (historically, France) and other nations have expressed their condolences to Mayor Christian Estrosi and the affected community. Police are still investigating the possibility of arson as the cause of the devastating fire.
