Arson attacks on cars - Senator for Justice on arson attacks: "I've had enough"

After several arson attacks on cars in the vicinity of Berlin Prisons and threats against justice officials, Justice Senator Felicitas Badenberg (CDU) has called for more protection. "I've had enough. I won't wait any longer for there to be more acts of violence! Threats against employees in the justice system and all types of violence must come to an end now," Badenberg stated.

The police presence should be expanded further, and residents should be specifically sensitized to provide tips. Already, some employees could park their private cars on the grounds of justice correctional facilities, according to the Senate Justice Administration. In addition, video surveillance at prisons and parking lots should be expanded. Badenberg spoke with Senator of the Interior Iris Spranger (SPD) about the topic on Tuesday.

In the past few weeks and months, several cars of justice officials have been set on fire in the vicinity or on parking lots of Berlin prisons. This affected the prison in Moabit, as well as one in Spandau, the large JVA Tegel, and in Großbeeren in Brandenburg at the southern city limit of Berlin.

Berlin's governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) stated on Tuesday that they would "search for the perpetrators with high pressure." "We will do everything to bring the criminals into custody." As long as the perpetrators have not been arrested, it is therefore essential to protect these employees as well as possible. A confession text published on a left-extremist internet site on Saturday is not considered authentic by the police, reported RBB.

  1. Badenberg suggested that the police's presence near Berlin prisons should be augmented to provide more security for justice officials, who have recently been targets of arson attacks on their cars and threats.
  2. As part of the efforts to bolster security, the senate suggested that some employees could park their private cars on the grounds of justice correctional facilities, offering an added layer of protection.
  3. Amidst the rise in arson attacks and threats, Senator Felor Badenberg from the CDU met with Senator of the Interior Iris Spranger (SPD) to discuss the escalating crime situation and devise strategies for prevention and deterrence.
  4. In an attempt to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, Berlin's governing Mayor Kai Wegner declared that they would put forth significant resources to track down the individuals responsible for these acts of violence and extremism.
  5. To monitor the surroundings and prevent potential threats, video surveillance at Berlin prisons and corresponding parking lots should be extended, according to the Senate Justice Administration, an essential measure in the ongoing battle against crime and extremism.
