After Germany's elimination from the European Football Championship, the Public Viewing at Munich's Olympiapark was well-attended for the semifinal match between France and Spain. "Full house," Olympiapark shared on Instagram. There were still some free spots. The Olympiastadion was supposed to remain closed for the game, a spokesperson from the responsible Munich Education Office stated.

During the quarterfinal match between Germany and Spain on the previous Friday, the fan zone was already closed more than an hour and a half before kickoff - the capacity of 25,000 spectators had been reached. Fans were able to alternate to the Olympiastadion, where an additional 8,000 people could find a spot. However, that was also closed due to capacity reasons.

Is the EM mood among Germans dampened?

Many fans of both teams had tickets for the semifinal match, and it remained to be seen how many German fans wanted to watch the game. In the evening, there were also many Spanish and French spectators in the fan zone, as Olympiapark announced.

Clashes between the Spaniards and the French were not expected. The police assumed a calm and peaceful encounter - the fans of the teams were rather not known for their disturbances.

Approximately 2000 police officers were reportedly in action in Munich. A three-digit number of them around the Public-Viewing-Area in the Olympiapark. Before the kickoff at 9:00 PM, the supporters of the teams met in their designated beer gardens and coordinated, as the spokesperson from the Education Office further stated. For many, it went on with shuttle buses then.

The German National Team's journey was already over on Friday: Mikel Merino ended Germany's title dream in the 119th minute with his goal.
