Selenskyj criticizes Orban's "peacemaking mission"
Without an EU mandate, Hungary's Prime Minister Orban visited Moscow and Beijing to discuss a solution in the Ukraine war. Brussels reacts in horror. Ukrainian President Zelensky also rejects Orban's solo actions.
In search of a peace solution for the Russian aggression war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has clearly spoken out against solo actions like that of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. "Why should we pay attention to someone who wants to travel to the capital of the war to talk and perhaps promise something at Ukraine's expense?", Zelensky said at the European Political Community summit in Oxford. Moscow is always interested in breaking the cohesion of the West through individual offers or even blackmail, he added.
Orban recently traveled to Moscow for talks with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin without Brussels or Kiev's approval. The Hungarian leader claimed he wanted to explore possibilities for ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has been ongoing since February 2022.
Before his visit to Moscow, Orban was also in Kiev. Later, he traveled to the Chinese capital, Beijing, and to US presidential candidate Donald Trump. Orban's peace mission, as he called it, was met with widespread rejection in EU and NATO countries.
The United Kingdom, like other EU and NATO nations, expressed strong disapproval towards Viktor Orban's peace mission to Moscow and Beijing during the Ukraine-Conflict. Viktor Orban's meetings with Putin and other world leaders, including Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump, raised concerns about Budapest's alleged disregard for Brussels' and Kiev's positions on the Attack on Ukraine.
