Air defense in Ukraine - Selensky thanks Germany for third Patriot system
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Germany for the delivery of the third Patriot air defense system. "This is great news," Zelenskyy said in his evening video message. He also thanked the USA for further steps to strengthen Ukrainian air defense. He did not provide details, but said that the country's partners had fulfilled their commitments. "Ukraine has already shown that it has no Russian rockets that we cannot intercept," Zelenskyy said. The country is doing everything to ensure that Russian terror ends.
He also met with missile manufacturers who are working to counter Russian aggression with something equivalent. "This is a matter of global stability and security, so that everyone in the Kremlin knows that they will not get away with it," he continued.
For its defense against Russia, Ukraine received the first modern US-made Patriot air defense system in April of the previous year. Ukrainian air defense is said to have already intercepted Russian hypersonic missiles and ballistic missiles with it. Kiev is currently said to have over four systems in total. More were reportedly offered by Romania, among others.
President Zelenskyy originally named at least seven such systems for a reliable protection of regular attacks on cities such as Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and Odessa. He regularly urges Ukraine's allies for regular support in air defense. Russia has been bombarding its neighbor in its ongoing conflict for over two years with air strikes. Through rocket and drone attacks, there have been severe damages to energy infrastructure and, unfortunately, deaths and injuries.
