In Brandenburg, the sportiest communities have been honored again. A city from the Landkreis Maeringisch-Oderland made it to the first place.

Communes - Seelow is the sportiest community in Brandenburg

The city of Seelow in the Märkisch-Oderland district has been named the most sports-active community in Brandenburg in 2023. The municipalities of Borkheide (Potsdam-Mittelmark district) and Eichwalde (Dahme-Spreewald district), as stated by the Sports Ministry.

Sports Minister Steffen Freiberg (SPD) congratulated on the award: "The partnership between sport and commune promotes both health and social cohesion. This is achieved in an exemplary manner by the three winning communities."

The competition for the title "Most Sports-Active City/Municipality in the Land Brandenburg" is held annually. In 2023, cities, municipalities, and communal entities of associations with up to 10,000 inhabitants could apply.

The following criteria were considered for the awards: membership numbers in local sports clubs and the variety of sports offerings. For first place, there is a prize money of 5,000 Euro, for second place 3,000 Euro, and for third place 2,000 Euro.

The municipalities of Borkheide, located in the Potsdam-Mittelmark District, and Eichwalde, part of the Dahme-Spreewald District, also demonstrated strong sports participation in the annual competition. The city of Brandenburg-Oder, being a commune in Brandenburg, participated in the competition like many others.
