In the wee hours of the night, part of the Carolabridge in Dresden fell apart. A significant stretch of about a hundred meters, containing a tram line and a section of the sidewalk, was impacted, as announced by a representative from Dresden's crisis center.
The city's public transportation authority confirmed that no trams were utilizing the bridge at the moment, ensuring no passengers or vehicles suffered any harm.
As a consequence, the entire perimeter surrounding the Carolabridge, which links Dresden's Old Town and New Town, has been cordoned off for traffic. Likewise, the Elbe river is off-limits. An extensive discharge of hot water is spewing from two district heating pipes at the Old Town side of the bridge's foundation. This incident has disrupted the district heating service across the entire city.
