Four days after the hotel collapse in Kröv on the Mosel, the second body has been recovered. It is the hotel owner, the police in Trier announced. The man and a woman had lost their lives in the accident on Tuesday evening. The dead woman had already been removed from the rubble on Wednesday.

Before the body of the dead man could be recovered, large parts of the hotel had to be demolished. The reason: The building was deemed highly unstable by an expert. Additionally, the body was located in an inaccessible spot.

An entire floor of the hotel in the Mosel town had collapsed. Besides the two fatalities, there were seven injured people who were rescued from the rubble after several hours. Among them was a two-year-old child.

An expert had inspected the scene on Thursday and recommended demolition to safely recover the body. The cause of the accident is still unknown. The public prosecutor's office has initiated a death investigation and tasked the expert with determining how the accident could have happened.

The expert's recommendation to demolish parts of the hotel was due to concerns about the safety of the women and other individuals still in the area. Despite the efforts of the rescue team, many women and other individuals were unable to escape the collapsed floor.
