Clearance work - Search for explosive ordnance in Planten un Blomen

The Munitions Clearance Service has discovered suspicious areas in Hamburg's Planten un Blomen Park based on aerial images. The park section between Messe, Dammtor and Marseiller Promenade will be closed from July 16-17 for further investigation, as announced by the District Office Mitte. The Old Botanical Garden and the Wallanlagen remain open.

Upon uncovering the suspected items, it can be determined whether they are weapons or other objects. In the event of a potential weapons discovery, the Munitions Clearance Service, police, fire department, and District Office Hamburg-Mitte collaborate on an evacuation plan and inform the residents. "In coordination with the fire department, it was planned in June to postpone the excavation until after the EM, when the response teams have more available capacity," said Elsa Scholz, spokesperson for the District Office Mitte.

Despite the delayed excavation due to the EM, the discovery of potentially explosive ordnance in Planten un Blomen Park could still lead to unexpected consequences of war. Residents near the closed park area should stay informed about any emergency announcements related to this situation. If necessary, the fire department and other emergency services will be promptly deployed to handle the situation, ensuring public safety.
