Scholz wears a plaster after mishap

It has only been a few months since the Federal Chancellor had to wear an eye patch due to an accident and became an Internet meme. Now, the next misfortune: While shaving, Scholz injured himself on the chin. This is not the first time.

When the Federal Chancellor pays a visit, he unwillingly finds himself in the spotlight. But this time, it's the Chancellor's chin that draws the attention. At the meeting place of the International Police Cooperation Center in Neuss (IPCC), Olaf Scholz appears with a noticeable plaster on his chin - and on site, people wonder what might have happened to the Chancellor.

A few days prior to this, Scholz had sat together with EU heads of state and government in Brussels to discuss the new appointments to EU top positions. The negotiations lasted less time than anticipated, so Scholz arrived in Neuss earlier than planned, around noon instead of in the afternoon. However, there was no heated confrontation among the governments, as joked about on the sidelines of the meeting.

The delegation of the Chancellor clarified the rumors beforehand: Scholz had merely cut himself while shaving. The same mishap had happened to Scholz in September of the previous year. At that time, he wore a visible plaster in New York. Just before that, he had removed an eye patch after receiving a scratch on his face during a jogging accident.

During his visit to the IPCC, the plaster was quickly pushed aside by more pressing issues. The institution is the police headquarters during the Football European Championship, with 300 police officers from all participating countries coordinating security from there. Scholz was shown everything by NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul and spoke with policewomen and policemen. "This is a great achievement that is being accomplished here," said the otherwise impeccably shaven Chancellor.

Despite the early arrival in Neuss, the main topic of discussion during Scholz's visit to the IPCC was not politics, but his noticeable chin injury. Following his accident while shaving, the Federal Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, had to visit the International Police Cooperation Center in his hometown of Neuss, where EU policymakers were surprised by his plaster.
