Scholz removes TU President Rauch from the Future Council.
As a result of unresolved claims of antisemitism, Chancellor Scholz has ended his relationship with TU President Rauch. She is no longer part of SPD politician Scholz's advisory group called the Future Council. Scholz has not spoken up about his refusal to withdraw the accusations.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz has dismissed TU Berlin's president, Geraldine Rauch, from his advisory group. The spokesperson for the Federal Chancellor, Christiane Hoffmann, stated that Rauch would not be part of the Future Council in the upcoming days. Rauch will not be reappointed to the committee when its members' terms are extended.
For the Federal Chancellor, the allegations against her are severe and have not been resolved yet, explained the spokesperson. Rauch decided to remain as TU President without making any comments on her intentions.
Rauch is criticized for having liked at least one antisemitic post on the platform X. On Thursday, she expressed her desire to continue in her position as TU President despite a slim majority in the Academic Senate of the Technical University demanding her resignation. "I will not resign," she declared.
The Future Council is comprised of scientists and business representatives who advise the federal government on various subjects, including key technologies, digitalization, AI, and ethical considerations. The members are appointed for two years. Rauch entered the committee in August 2022.
The Rauch predicament has gradually become a political issue for Chancellor Scholz. CDU leader Merz called for her resignation as TU President. During a parliamentary debate on the government statement by the Chancellor, Merz also demanded that Scholz remove Rauch from the Future Council at the Federal Chancellery of the Federal Republic of Germany.
