Scholz reaches personal polling low in "Politbarometer"
In view of the crisis surrounding the federal budget, the "traffic light" coalition remains at a low in the polls. Chancellor Olaf Scholz's personal reputation reached a negative record in the ZDF "Politbarometer". 82% of respondents said they perceived the coalition as divided, and 60% were dissatisfied with its work. Taken together, the three coalition parties only achieved 35% in the Sunday poll and would therefore be far from a majority.
If there really were a general election next Sunday, the SPD would have 15 percent (down one point on the previous Politbarometer). The CDU/CSU would reach 31% (up one point). The Greens would reach 15 percent (unchanged), the FDP would reach five percent (unchanged), the AfD would reach its highest projection value to date with 22 percent (up one point) and the Left Party would reach four percent (unchanged).
Only 35% of respondents said that the "traffic light" government was doing a good job. The survey produced a clear result when it came to the debt brake. Thirty-five percent are in favor of relaxing the debt brake, while 61 percent want to keep it unchanged. In terms of personal assessment, Chancellor Scholz only achieved minus 0.4 on a scale of plus five to minus five - his worst score in the Politbarometer to date.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius remains unchallenged in first place (plus 1.8). CSU leader Markus Söder is a distant second with 0.1, followed by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) with minus 0.2 and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) with minus 0.3. CDU leader Friedrich Merz is at minus 0.4, while FDP leader Christian Lindner is at minus 0.5.
The Politbarometer survey was conducted by the Mannheim-based Forschungsgruppe Wahlen. For this purpose, 1242 randomly selected eligible voters were interviewed by telephone. The margin of error is plus/minus three percentage points for a share value of 40 percent and plus/minus two percentage points for a share value of ten percent.
The coalition's strife in addressing the federal budget crisis seems to have contributed to its quarrelsome image, as shown by 82% of respondents in a recent Politbarometer survey. Consequently, Chancellor Scholz's political standing also plummeted to a new low, with 60% expressing dissatisfaction towards his leadership and the coalition's work.
