Scholz holds out the prospect of further systems in Ukraine
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the previous support of Ukraine with air defense systems as a "major step." At the same time, he held out the prospect of additional systems to the country under attack from Russia on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington. "In my view, this process is not yet completed," Scholz said before a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The USA, Germany, and other allies have pledged additional support to Ukraine for countering Russian air raids at the beginning of the NATO summit on Tuesday. Ukraine had already requested seven additional Patriot systems in April, with Germany having already delivered three and insisting that other NATO countries follow suit. "Germany has taken a big step in encouraging others and convincing them that this is necessary," Scholz said.
