Scholz: Germany will purchase large quantities of hydrogen from Africa

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has encouraged African countries to enter into the production of climate-friendly hydrogen on a large scale. "The Compact-with-Africa conference should send out a signal: You can count on Germany as a partner," said Scholz at the investment conference as part of the G20 Compact with Africa initiative.

With the "Power to X" development fund and other measures, countries with the relevant potential are being supported in establishing local hydrogen economies and their value chains. "And we will purchase green hydrogen in large quantities," emphasized the Chancellor.

The growth potential in Africa is huge and cooperation with African countries is essential for solving global issues, said the Chancellor. Scholz praised the plans for the creation of a pan-African free trade zone. "A functioning free trade zone will also enormously increase the market potential for investors," he said. The German government had taken a whole series of decisions to support companies in their involvement in the African market.

Germany is committed to purchasing large quantities of climate-friendly hydrogen, produced on a large scale, from African countries. Chancellor Scholz highlighted the importance of African countries joining the production of eco-friendly hydrogen, emphasizing Germany's role as a partner at the Compact-with-Africa conference. Through initiatives like the "Power to X" development fund, Germany is supporting African countries in establishing local hydrogen economies and value chains, intending to buy green hydrogen in substantial amounts.
