TrafficCoalition - Scholz defends government budget at works council meetings
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) defended his government's balance in a conversation with works council members. "We have tried to modernize a lot in our society, starting with the Bundeswehr and relief for people who earn little money," he said in Dresden. To get to the results, "quite a lot of fighting" had been necessary. Now there is a lot of steam over the landscape that needs to settle down first, "so that you can see what has been accomplished."
Scholz announced a Tariff Loyalty Law and a law for the modernization of the federal procurement system. The goal is to reduce bureaucracy. "Both drafts are practically finished." There is no fundamental disagreement in the coalition about it, it's just about practical details.
Chancellor makes a personal confession
The Chancellor also expressed himself on e-mobility and the expansion of charging station networks. With regard to the latter, transparency is needed first. "Many people don't even know what they are paying for," Scholz said. He did not want to speculate when the breakthrough in e-mobility would come.
However, the Chancellor showed understanding that many people were hesitant to buy an electric car - and he made a comparison from his private life. "I still have an old tube television," Scholz admitted. It still works excellently and he was once very proud of it.
Whenever he wanted to buy a new TV, he thought that if he bought one now, it would be outdated in a year. "It's probably the same for many people when it comes to deciding on an electric car," Scholz speculated.
