Traffic light compromise - Scholz: Budget 2025 is a good budget
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz defended the coalition leaders' budget compromise against opposition criticism. We have found a way to finance the important tasks of the country and help Ukraine financially "without causing restrictions here," said the SPD politician at a citizen dialogue in Weimar.
"And that's why it's a good budget that the federal government agreed on after such a long time and a night without sleep." Scholz acknowledged that the coalition had fought hard for this path.
The coalition leaders settled the long-standing budget dispute in the night leading to Friday in lengthy negotiations and agreed on a draft for the Federal Budget 2025.
"Budget for investments soars"
Scholz emphasized during the SPD's campaign kickoff in Thuringia that the coalition was doing something for children and families with its budget draft, as child allowance and child supplements would be increased. In addition, investments would be made in the infrastructure of the country, such as roads and railways. "The federal budget for investments is soaring," said the Chancellor.
Investments will also be made in the latest infrastructure for Germany's internal and external security, according to Scholz. Although the defense budget is only expected to grow by approximately 1.2 billion euros, while Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) had demanded more than six billion euros. However, Scholz stressed, "we are providing the necessary money for the security of our country, and that's why we will also equip the Bundeswehr better than in the past."
