Following the shift in power in the UK around two months ago, Germany is looking to rekindle its connections with the country that departed from the EU. A mutual accord is set to be inked at the start of the new year, as mentioned by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during Starmer's introductory trip to Berlin.

"I'm thrilled by Keir Starmer's statement about aiming for a new chapter in relations with the EU. We're all set to extend our hand," Scholz expressed. Starmer's Labour Party shares the same European political clan as Scholz's SPD. "Germany and the United Kingdom haven't had such a pact before," Scholz underscored.

The agreement between the two nations will be finalized post-government discussions, as per a joint declaration. It will encompass a multitude of aspects, such as security policy and unauthorized migration. Economic collaboration will also be a key focus.

Starmer viewed this as a chance that comes around scarcely once in a while. "We're yearning for a fresh start," said the newly appointed British prime minister, who paid his inaugural visit to Germany merely two months into his tenure. His Conservative predecessor, Rishi Sunak, waited 18 months before making his inaugural visit to Berlin in April of this year.

"The new agreement between the Government of the United Kingdom and Germany will significantly impact various sectors, including security policy and unauthorized migration."

"Given the strategic importance of economic collaboration, both governments are committed to fostering strong economic ties in their upcoming cooperation."
