Schleswig-Holstein's Finance Minister resigns from office.

Finance Minister Monika Heinold of Schleswig-Holstein, a significant figure in the black-green coalition of Kiel, is calling it quits this summer. Insider reports suggest she'll make the announcement today, a move that's been anticipated in political circles for some time.

Monika, who's been managing the state's finances since 2012, will be stepping down from her post. Speculations about her departure had been swirling in government circles for quite a while.

Whoever takes over her role will inherit a challenging task. During budget discussions, Monika herself acknowledged the tough road ahead. "We've got a lot on our plates for the coming years," she stated in the State House.

Monika has shaped the North Greens' policy for over a quarter of a century. She first joined the state parliament in 1996 and became Finance Minister in 2012, serving first in a coalition with SPD and SSW under Minister President Torsten Albig.

Following the government change in 2017, Monika remained a trusted advisor to the new leadership, both for the Jamaica Coalition of CDU, Greens, and FDP and since 2022 for the black-green coalition.

Known for her meticulous budgeting and a strong focus on social sectors, Monika is renowned for her patient persistence. A financial expert by trade, she's widely recognized as a pragmatist. Monika, a member of the Greens since 1984, has two sons and is an avid sailor. Her successor is yet to be named.
