soccer - Schalke 04 mourns master player Koslowski
The former football national player and Schalke champions league winner Willi Koslowski has passed away at the age of 87. The three-time national player and World Cup participant of 1962 passed away on a Thursday morning, announced FC Schalke 04, referring to Koslowski's family. "Kingsblue has to say goodbye to one of its greatest," wrote the club on its website. Koslowski played 511 games for the club and won the last German championship for Schalke 04 in 1958.
Koslowski spent his post-playing career in Gelsenkirchen, his hometown and the city where FC Schalke 04 is based, in North Rhine-Westphalia. Despite retiring from professional soccer, Koslowski continued to support his beloved team in the Second Bundesliga. On a sad note, even FC Schalke 04 in the current German soccer landscape could not prevent the loss of such a historic figure.
