Samsung wants to become Lord of the Rings

The Galaxy Ring is Samsung's new star device unveiled in Paris, as it brings something new to the company's portfolio. But the latest foldable and clap phones, headphones, and smartwatches from the South Koreans are also intriguing. And AI plays a big role.

Cracking instead of clattering: Samsung introduced a whole lineup of new devices in Paris. Most of them are developments, like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. For the first time, however, the South Koreans are also presenting a smart ring that measures fitness and health data. Two new smartwatches from the company and Samsung's latest earbud generation also surprise with a new design.

New Ring, ultra-robust Galaxy Watch Ultra

The Galaxy Ring measures pulse and recognizes various workouts automatically. It can also track sleep and alert wearers to irregularities or inactivity.

This can also be other rings, but according to the manufacturer, the Galaxy Ring should deliver particularly accurate data, which is supposed to be processed more securely in Samsung Health than with other providers. With the new wearable, the company wants to make its ecosystem even more attractive to keep customers long-term.

The same applies to the new Galaxy Watch 7, which also functions as a health and fitness tracker. It has received a stronger processor than its predecessor. Extreme athletes and adventurers should enjoy the Galaxy Watch Ultra, which has a titanium case and is waterproof up to 10 atmospheres. It works in altitude ranges between 500 meters below and 9000 meters above sea level.

Stick-earbuds, lighter foldables

Samsung's new earbuds have a new stick design, reminiscent of Apple's Airpods. The Galaxy Buds 3 are supposed to be more comfortable while still being secure. Like the competition, they can now be controlled by pressing and swiping the stems.

Sound quality and active noise cancellation (ANC) should be better than in the already excellent predecessors. The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro take it a step further with an additional high-toner, adaptive ANC tuning, siren and voice recognition. With a Galaxy-Smartphone, you can also listen to real-time translations with the new Buds.

The most important devices at Samsung's summer Unpacked event were the new foldable and clap phones. With a new, flat frame, they are even lighter than previous generations. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 weighs only 187 grams, and the Galaxy Z Fold only 239 grams. They are also supposed to be more robust and come with a stronger processor and improved cameras.

AI functions from Samsung or Google

Samsung's earphones have a new design.

The chip is also optimized for AI applications, as Samsung emphasized in its presentation, similar to its Galaxy-S24 series. Most functions are not really new, but the foldables have special talents. For example, they can display real-time translations to conversation partners on their screens.

This feature works like all Samsung AI functions "on board" in the chip, therefore it doesn't need an Internet connection. However, Samsung also cooperates with Google's Cloud AI Gemini, which gets its own app on the devices. With it, users can transform Selfies or Portraits into various styles such as Cartoon or Watercolor. Additionally, there are numerous other Photo and Video functions, including an Auto-Zoom, where people or landmarks are automatically fitted into the image using AI assistance.

Extras for Pre-orders

All new Samsung devices are now available for pre-order, with Samsung offering attractive bundles or trade-ins for old devices. They will be available in stores starting July 24. Samsung offers the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 for prices starting at around 2000 or 1200 Euros. The Galaxy Buds 3 have a suggested retail price of around 180 Euros, while the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro cost approximately 250 Euros.

The Galaxy Ring goes on sale for around 450 Euros, with the price being the same for all sizes. The Galaxy Watch 7 is available in the 40mm version starting at 320 Euros, while the 44mm model costs at least 350 Euros. Those who want the Galaxy Watch Ultra will have to pay around 700 Euros. Pre-orders also come with special deals for these devices.

The Galaxy Ring, a new addition to Samsung's lineup, is not just a smart ring, but a fitness and health tracker that offers accurate data and secure processing through Samsung Health. Samsung's new Galaxy Watch 7, equipped with a stronger processor, also serves as a health and fitness tracker.

In the realm of audio technology, Samsung's new earbuds, echoing the design of Apple's Airpods, are the Galaxy Buds 3. They promise improved comfort, sound quality, and active noise cancellation, with the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro taking it further with added features.
