The Sea Life Aquarium in Australia reported his demise, stating that he lived an impressive 11.8 years, which is unusually long for a penguin. Sphen and his partner Magic shared a deep bond for six years and raised and nurtured two offspring, Sphengic and Clency.
Even during non-breeding seasons, Sphen and Magic were inseparable, a rarity among penguins. Their influence as a representation of equality was significant. The beloved penguin duo graced the Netflix series "Atypical," various books, documentaries, and the New South Wales curriculum, according to the aquarium's remembrance.

The dead penguin sparked emotional tributes on the aquarium's online platform. One fan wrote, "Though you were just a penguin, your love was so courageous and beautiful to us all."
