A 4-year-old kid met an unfortunate end a day after falling from a high-rise building's balcony in Heidelberg. The cops confirmed this grim news. Following the fall from the seventh floor last Friday, the child was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries and underwent immediate surgery. Regrettably, the doctor's best efforts were unable to save the child's life, and he passed away on Saturday, according to reports.
The police characterized the incident as a tragic misfortune, citing preliminary findings. The 4-year-old had reportedly seized the opportunity during an unsupervised moment while his mother was in the washroom, a spokesperson explained. The child managed to open the living room window leading to the balcony and climbed onto it.
Fifteen-meter plunge
From there, he climbed onto the roughly one-meter-high railing, lost his balance, and plummeted more than 15 meters. There's no sign of any wrongdoing or negligence in regard to the child's safety. The father was away at work during the incident.
In such situations, the police always probe for external wrongdoing, the spokesperson said. For this purpose, officers examined the 4-year-old's apartment and examined whether the child's injuries corresponded to the sequence of events.
Such incidents keep happening. Towards the end of last year, a 9-year-old kid fell to their demise from a high-rise building in Berlin. In July 2023, a 10-year-old kid fell from a Berlin high-rise window and perished. In both cases, there were no traces of external involvement.
The child's distraught mother was consoled by neighbors after learning of his tragic fate. Despite the numerous safety measures in place, incidents involving children falling from high places continue to occur.
