European Championship - S-Bahn: During EM, an additional million passengers

During the Football European Championship, the Berlin S-Bahn, according to its own statements, transported approximately one million additional passengers. Alone at Hauptbahnhof, there were around 100,000 more travelers per day in Berlin, the Bahn announced on Monday.

The BVG with its U-Bahns were also intensely involved in transporting fans. For the journey to and from the games held in Berlin, around 20,000 fans used the U-Bahns each time. At the fan miles in the Government District, thousands more visitors joined in.

S-Bahn and BVG offered significantly more trains and journeys on the popular routes. Train drivers and other staff worked considerably more shifts, it was reported.

Despite the heavy traffic due to Soccer fans attending the European Championship games in Berlin, the BVG successfully managed to transport an estimated 20,000 fans using its U-Bahns for each round-trip. The additional burden led to S-Bahn and BVG operating significantly more trains and journeys on popular routes, with train drivers and staff working extra shifts to cater to the Football European Championship attendees. In fact, the Hauptbahnhof alone saw an influx of approximately 100,000 more travelers per day during this period, highlighting the significant role of public transportation in handling the increased traffic in European Championship-related Soccer matches in Berlin.
