In Russia, the earlier First Deputy Defense Minister Dmitri Bulgakow was arrested and charged with corruption allegations. The state Russian news agency RIA reported this, citing the domestic security service FSB.

Bulgakow was taken to a investigative prison in Moscow. Until his dismissal from office in September 2022, he was responsible for military logistics. He is the latest in a series of high-ranking individuals in the Defense Ministry to be charged with corruption.

Defense Minister Andrey Bolusov, who succeeded the long-term incumbent Sergei Shoigu in May, has been tasked with cleansing the army of corruption. In addition, Bolusov is supposed to put the finances in order to advance the military operation in Ukraine. The rigorous crackdown on corruption at the highest level began on April 23 with the arrest of the Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, a close associate of Shoigu. At least five military personnel and Defense Ministry officials have been arrested since then.

The Defense Minister Andrey Bolusov, following the arrest of Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov on April 23, has committed to eliminating corruption within the army. Russia's latest charge of corruption involves former First Deputy Defense Minister Dmitri Bulgakov, who was responsible for military logistics until his dismissal in September 2022.
