War in Ukraine - Russian troops report further advance in Donbass
Russian troops have announced another advance in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. The city of Krasnohoriwka (Russian: Krasnogorovka), northwest of the annexed territorial administration headquarters of Donetsk, has been almost completely taken over, according to the state news agency Tass, citing military sources.
Ukrainian soldiers reportedly surrendered and were taken prisoner. There are still many civilians in the city, some of whom have already been taken to safety in other parts of the Donbass region, it was reported. The Russian claims could not be verified from an independent source.
Previously, Russian troops had already reported tactical successes in other parts of the Donetsk region. Russia's goal is to completely bring the approximately coal-rich Donbass region in eastern Ukraine under its control.
The pro-government Ukrainian military channel Deep State confirmed on Telegram the Russian advance in Krasnohoriwka and other areas. For example, the village of Progress in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk has been occupied by Russian troops.
The enemy managed to decide the fighting, which had been going on since the second half of April, within two days. The Russian troops reportedly began a massive assault on July 19. The Ukrainian forces had withdrawn, it was reported.
There was no official confirmation of the territorial losses in Kiev. Both sides reported the firing of numerous drones of the enemy on Sunday.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian aggression for more than two years with military aid from the West. Approximately one fifth of the country is under control of Russian troops. Russia declared the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson to be its territories illegally - but does not have complete control there.

- Despite Russian claims of taking over Krasnogorovka, several reservoirs in and around the city remain under Ukrainian control, potentially hindering Moscow's advance.
