War in Ukraine - Russian troops announce advance again in the Donetsk area
Russian troops have announced new successes in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, specifically the capture of the villages of Progress and Evhenivka. The Russian Defense Ministry made the announcement, but there was no confirmation from the Ukrainian side regarding Evhenivka. The pro-Ukrainian military channel Deep State had previously reported on Telegram that the village of Progress, which had been fought over for three months in the Pokrovsk district, had been taken by Russian troops.
The Russian claims were not independently verifiable. However, Russian troops, according to western military experts, have controlled numerous cities and villages in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine since the beginning of the year.
The Russian Defense Ministry has reported dozens of captures in the annexed territories of Luhansk and Donetsk and in the predominantly Ukrainian-controlled region of Kharkiv since the beginning of the year. Russia's goal is to fully occupy the annexed but not yet fully controlled Ukrainian territories of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Donetsk.
An official confirmation of the territory losses from Kiev is usually not given. Both sides reported the firing of numerous enemy drones and individual successes on the battlefield on Sunday. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian offensive war for over two years with Western military aid. Approximately one fifth of the country is under Russian control.
- The conflict in Pokrovsk, a district in eastern Ukraine, has seen Russian troops making advances, as evident by their reported capture of the village of Progress.
- The Russian troops, having already established control over numerous cities and villages in the Donbass region since the start of the year, are now aiming to fully occupy the annexed but not yet fully controlled territories of Luhansk and Donetsk.
- Despite the continuous conflicts in Ukraine, Moscow has reported several captures in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions and in Kharkiv, with Evhenivka being one of the recently announced victories.
- Russia has controlled the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk, which were annexed during the ongoing conflict, for quite some time, and their defense ministry has been announcing more advances, such as the capture of Reservoirs in these territories.
- Following the Russian victory in the Donetsk region, with the capture of Progress and Evhenivka, the ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify, with troops from both sides engaging in regular skirmishes around Luhansk and Donetsk.
