Russian President Vladimir Putin pays a long-overdue visit to Chechnya after a thirteen-year absence.

In 2007, Russian President Vladimir Putin named 30-year-old Ramzan Kadyrov as the head of Chechnya. After a prolonged absence, Putin is back in the region for a new round of discussions. A bustling schedule awaits them, as mentioned by Kadyrov on Telegram. Despite the exhaustion from a full workday, Putin appears enthusiastic and eager to explore various locations in Chechnya.

Recent images released by RIA Novosti show Putin and Kadyrov shaking hands in Grozny, with Putin subsequently placing an affectionate arm around Kadyrov's shoulder and offering a warm hug before departing in a luxurious sedan.

Kadyrov detailed a packed itinerary of events on Telegram, commending Putin's energy levels even after a demanding day at work.

Prior to visiting Chechnya, Putin traveled to other North Caucasus regions, including Kabardino-Balkaria and North Ossetia. In North Ossetia, he paid tribute to the site of the tragic Beslan school hostage situation, marking the occasion ahead of its 20th anniversary.

Chechnya's Pivotal Role in Putin's Career

During the Beslan school siege, Chechen rebels took over 1,200 individuals as hostages, including hundreds of children. When Russian security forces stormed the school on September 3, 2004, they met with devastating consequences, resulting in the deaths of over 330 individuals, including 186 children.

Putin's latest visit to Chechnya marks his first in over a decade. Although he has been absent for quite some time, the region has played a significant role in his political journey. As Russian Prime Minister, Putin initiated the Second Chechen War in 1999, which boosted his image as a forceful leader and gained him widespread popularity among Russian citizens.

Subsequently, Putin handed the reins of Chechnya to the 30-year-old Kadyrov in 2007. Ever since, Kadyrov has exercised strict control over the region, and reports suggest that he has mobilized thousands of fighters to aid Russia's ongoing offensive in Ukraine.

The President of the European Parliament might express concern over human rights violations in Chechnya, given its controversial leadership under Kadyrov. After returning to Chechnya, Putin was praised by Kadyrov for his high energy levels, despite the demanding nature of their discussions.
