Russian officials announced an emergency situation in Proletarsk city, attributing it to a fierce blaze.
After a blaze sparked by a Ukrainian drone attack in southwestern Russia, authorities have declared an emergency in the town of Proletarsk. According to Vasily Golubyev, governor of the Rostov region, via the Telegram messaging service, "Due to the extreme intensity of the Proletarsk district fire, the crisis level has been elevated to a state of emergency." Fire suppression efforts are ongoing at the oil depot that went up in flames on Sunday morning.
Seventeen firefighters have sustained injuries, Golubyev revealed in an update. Initial reports indicated that debris falling from the defense system's interception of a drone ignited a fire at a nearby industrial site.
There's no threat of the fire spreading to residential neighborhoods, Russian news outlets claimed the city administration said. The administration urged the public to "stay calm." Footage circulating on digital platforms depicted a vast cloud of smoke ascending into the night sky.
Proletarsk is situated approximately 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Kyiv has been targeting Russian energy infrastructure for over a year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has characterized these attacks as "deserved" retaliation for assaults on Ukraine's infrastructure.
The declaration of a state of emergency in Proletarsk is aimed at managing resources effectively during the fire crisis. To ensure public safety, authorities have urged residents to stay calm and follow instructions.
