Russian offensive in Kharkiv region not showing significant advancement, claims Biden security counselor.
The Russian military campaign in the eastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv appears to have reached a stalemate, as per the analysis of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. Sullivan mentioned on Sunday that the operations in Kharkiv have come to a halt, despite the continued threat to the region. He further explained that the Russians had failed to make any significant advancements in the area in the recent past.
The easing of restrictions imposed by President Joe Biden directed towards allowing Ukraine to employ weapons supplied by the US on Russian territory had been justified, according to Sullivan. "This was a matter of common sense," he told CBS on Sunday. "It was illogical to deny the Ukrainians the ability to retaliate against Russian weapons and positions that were firing on them."
Following in President Biden's footsteps, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has also given permission to Ukraine to utilize German weapons for targeting in the Russian border regions. Before this, the Russian troops had been exerting pressure on the Ukrainian forces with their attack on the Kharkiv region, which commenced towards the end of May, and had observed a string of territorial victories.
During his visit to France to attend the 80th anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy and his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this Friday, President Biden reiterated his commitment to Ukraine. Biden announced a fresh aid package worth $225 million (€208 million) for the country during his trip.
Biden issued a warning on Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not give up his pursuits in Ukraine. "Putin will not stop at Ukraine," Biden remarked during his discussions at the Elysee Palace with French President Emmanuel Macron. "The entirety of Europe is under threat. We will not tolerate this situation."
