Russian military forces are progressing swiftly at the Pokrovsk front, situated in eastern Ukraine.
According to military analysts, Russian troops are making rapid progress in the Pokrovsk sector of eastern Ukraine. In just a few days, they've supposedly taken over the bulk of settlements south of Pokrovsk, including Novohrodivka, as per a report by the U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
As per ISW, the Russian army is now focusing on pushing ahead along a railway line towards Pokrovsk. The rapid Russian inroads in Novohrodivka, located in the Donetsk region, were likely aided by Ukraine's withdrawal from the region, experts suggest.
Following the Russian troops' advance towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced he would beef up the region during a meeting with military leaders. Russian forces have recently claimed to have seized entire settlements in the Donetsk area.
In response to the escalating situation, Ukrainian authorities have ordered compulsory evacuations. Due to the worsening security situation, the evacuation zone has expanded. Kids and their parents or caretakers are required to vacate their homes, as announced by the governor of Donetsk. A total of 27 settlements in the Konstantinovka and Selydove regions have been included on the evacuation list. Earlier, evacuations were ordered in the Pokrovsk area due to the advance of Russian troops.
Russian forces have reportedly expanded their control to areas beyond Novohrodivka in Eastern Ukraine. The ongoing conflict has led to compulsory evacuations in the Konstantinovka and Selydove regions, which are part of Eastern Ukraine.
