Russian drone parts fall in Romania
The proximity of NATO countries to Ukraine poses risks, the alliance bond could threaten at any moment. Romania is part of the alliance. And there, parts of Russian drones have been found again. No one was injured, but the Defense Ministry is foaming at the mouth.
In Romania, near the Ukrainian border, remains of Russian drones have been found again. Romania has already informed its NATO partners about the find near the village of Plauru on the northern branch of the Danube River Chilia, wrote Romania's Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu. The debris are from a drone of the type Geran 1/2, with which Russia attacked in the night to Wednesday, according to the Defense Ministry.
The Defense Ministry is investigating, according to its own statements, whether after further Russian attacks in the border region on Thursday night, other objects have fallen on Romanian territory in the same region. In both nights, the population in the region was warned and advised to seek shelter in bomb shelters or cellars. The Defense Ministry strongly condemned the Russian attacks. They were unjustified and flagrantly violated international law.
Moreover, Romanian surveillance aircraft were launched towards the combat area during the attacks. In the night to Wednesday, it was F-16 fighter jets of the Romanian Air Force from the base Borcea in Southern Romania, and in the night to Thursday, Finnish F-18 jets from the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base near the Black Sea, according to the Defense Ministry.
Plauru is located directly opposite the Ukrainian Danube port Ismayil, in a sparsely populated region. Last year, debris of Russian drones landed there several times after attacks on Ukrainian ports.
The discovery of Russian drone debris in Romania, near Plauru, has led to discussions within NATO Politics. This is not the first time such remains have been found near the Ukrainian border, raising concerns about potential Russian attacks. The type of drone, a Geran 1/2, was used in an attack on Ukraine the previous night, as reported by Romania's Defense Ministry.
