Ukraine-War - Russian drone debris removed again in Romania

According to Russian attacks on Ukrainian Danube ports, remains of Russian drones have been found again in Romania near the Ukrainian border. Romanian authorities have already informed their NATO partners about the find near the village of Plauru on the northern arm of the Danube River Chilia, wrote Romania's Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu on platform X. The debris are reportedly from a drone of the type Geran 1/2, with which Russia attacked in the night of Wednesday.

The Defense Ministry is reportedly checking if, after further Russian attacks in the border area on Thursday night, other objects in the same region have fallen onto Romanian territory. The population in the region was warned and advised to seek shelter in bomb shelters or cellars before the attacks.

Moreover, Romanian surveillance aircraft were launched towards the combat area during the attacks from the Romanian side. In the night of Wednesday, F-16 fighter jets of the Romanian Air Force from the base Borcea in Southern Romania were involved, in the night of Thursday, Finnish F-18 jets from the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base near the Black Sea.

Plauru is located directly opposite the Ukrainian Danube port of Ismail, in a sparsely populated region. In the past year, debris of Russian drones have landed there several times after attacks on Ukrainian ports.

Tweet of Romania's Foreign Minister, English announcement Defense Ministry, Romanian

  1. The Russian drone debris discovered in Romania near Plauru is a concern, as it suggests ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine along their shared border.
  2. Romania, a NATO partner, has been actively monitoring and responding to these conflicts, deploying F-16 fighter jets from Borcea and even inviting Finnish F-18 jets from Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base during recent attacks.
  3. The Danube harbor in Plauru has been a recurring target for Russian drones, making this region particularly susceptible to the fallout from tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
  4. The discovery of Russian drone remains near Bucharest underscores the potential risks of escalating conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, threatening the stability and security of Romania, as well as its NATO allies.
