Russia reports fire at oil storage facility after Ukrainian drone attack

In the central Russian region of Tambov, a prison camp is on fire following a Ukrainian drone attack, local authorities reported. The attack occurred several hundred kilometers from the Ukrainian border early on Friday morning, as Regional Governor Maxim Lebedev announced on Telegram. "A small fire broke out and was contained," he stated. There were reportedly "no casualties."

The Russian Defense Ministry, meanwhile, declared that 25 Ukrainian drones had been "intercepted" during the night. The incident in Tambov was initially not mentioned. In the western Russian region of Bryansk, a drone was reportedly shot down by the regional governor, Alexander Bogomaz, on Telegram. However, he added that the roof of an administrative building was partially damaged by falling debris from the drone.

Ukraine has been confronted with Russian offensive for over two years. It regularly responds with attacks on Russian regions and has increasingly targeted energy infrastructure.

After the Ukrainian drone attack, concerns arose about potential oil storage facilities in Tambov due to the fire's proximity. Amidst the Ukraine war, Russia has faced multiple drone attacks targeting its energy infrastructure.
