Russia plans to list Ukrainian children on adoption websites.
During its fight against Ukraine, Russia is pillaging whatever it can grab. It also seems to be openly stealing numerous children. It's been reported that some of these children are now being offered for adoption on Russian websites. The US National Security Advisor, Sullivan, calls this whole thing "disgusting and appalling."
There are allegations of kidnapped Ukrainian children being listed for adoption in Russia. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan described this situation as "disgusting and appalling."
Previous reports by "The Financial Times" showed that they discovered four Ukrainian children on a Russian adoption website. The newspaper noted that one of the children had a fake identity - a Russian name and a false age. None of the children mentioned that they were from Ukraine.
"The Financial Times" claimed that the children were forcibly removed from state orphanages and taken away from their lawful guardians and relatives when many cities in southern and eastern Ukraine were taken over by Russia in 2022. These kids, aged 8-15, were in the Russian regions of Tula near Moscow and Orenburg, which borders Kazakhstan. One of the kids was allegedly taken to the occupied Crimean Peninsula. Seventeen other Ukrainian children on the adoption website were identified by the "New York Times" in a recent investigation, and they all allegedly came from an orphanage in Kherson.
A staggering number of Ukrainian children are now in Russia
Ukraine claims that Russia has kidnapped around 20,000 children during the war, but only a few hundred have been returned. The International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his so-called children's rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, for this reason in 2023. The Kremlin denies these allegations.
However, Moscow claims that they brought more than 700,000 Ukrainian children to safety since July of the previous year, when the large-scale invasion began. They said that most of the kids came with their parents or relatives.
