Luck in Russia - Russia: Passenger train wagons derail - Injured

In Russia, several wagons of a passenger train derailed in the Volga region. On social media videos, overturned wagons were seen in an uninhabited area. There are reports of numerous injured people. In the train, which had been on its way from Kazan, the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan, to Adler on the Black Sea, there were reportedly 800 passengers.

According to the Russian railway company RZD, eight wagons derailed in the Volgograd region. RZD reported that this happened when a truck driver attempted to cross a railway crossing. There was a collision with Train Number 491, according to RZD. In Russian media, there were reports of up to 100 injured. An official confirmation of this was not available initially.

The railway is considered one of the most important and reliable means of transportation in the largest country in the world. Accidents are relatively rare. However, in recent years, there have been several sabotage acts on railway tracks - by opponents of Russia's military campaign in Ukraine. The railroad is also crucial for the military in supplying troops in Ukraine.

  1. The derailment of the passenger train in the Volga region of Russia brought traffic to a standstill near the accident site.
  2. Despite the train accident in Tatarstan, many passengers chose to continue their journey by train to the Black Sea, showing resilience and trust in the Russian railway system.
  3. Reports suggested that some of the injured passengers were being transferred to hospitals in Kasan for treatment, given its proximity to the accident site in Volgograd.
  4. The train accident impacted not only the railway but also the local traffic, as emergency services and rescue vehicles were deployed to the scene, causing congestion on the roads leading to the uninhabited area.
  5. Subsequent investigations revealed that the train accident occurred due to a careless truck driver attempting to cross a railway crossing, which could potentially lead to stricter traffic regulations and safety measures at railway crossings in Russia.
