Russia issues wanted notice for Navalny widow

After the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, the Kremlin increases pressure on his family: A court in Moscow issues an arrest warrant against his wife, Julia Navalnaya, living abroad. She is accused of involvement in an "extremist organization."

A Russian court has issued an arrest warrant against Julia Navalnaya, the wife of the deceased opposition figure Alexei Navalny, living in exile, due to the accusation of involvement in an "extremist organization." Navalnaya had evaded preliminary investigations, according to the Press Service of Moscow Courts in the Telegram online service. Consequently, she has been placed on the wanted list. The court stated, "We have granted the investigators' request and decided on preventive measures in the form of a two-month detention."

A friend of Navalny, Leonid Volkov, reacted with irony to the arrest warrant: "A beautiful acknowledgment of Julia's determination to continue Alexei's fight," Volkov wrote in the X online service. Almost all significant opposition figures in Russia are either in prison or in exile. Thousands of ordinary Russian citizens have been arrested for protest activities or criticism of the offensive in Ukraine, many receiving severe sentences.

Navalny, the most prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, died on February 16, according to Russian authorities, in a prison in the Arctic where he was serving a 19-year sentence. The day before, he was seen in a video appearing in apparently good health. Navalny's supporters and numerous international observers believe that a "natural" cause of death, as stated on the death certificate, is unlikely. Wife Navalnaya held Putin responsible for her husband's fate at the Munich Security Conference in front of the global public.

Navalny had been weakened physically due to a poisoning attack in 2020 and continuous solitary confinement in the prison. His supporters and many international observers agree that a "natural" cause of death, as stated on the death certificate, is unlikely. Wife Navalnaya held Putin accountable for her husband's fate at the Munich Security Conference in front of the global public.

The arrest warrant against Julia Navalnaya, Alexei Navalny's wife, stemmed from allegations of involvement in an "extremist organization" in Russia. Despite being a key figure in her husband's political activities, Navalnaya has been actively campaigning from exile.
