Russia insults German ambassador
Moscow is annoyed. The reason is a statement by the German ambassador that war is "not inevitable". The Russian Foreign Ministry has now voiced harsh criticism and given Lambsdorff some advice.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized the German ambassador in Moscow, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, for his commemoration of the victims of war. "It is a great pity that the German ambassador forgot to 'thank' his government for the regular deliveries of weapons to the area of the Ukrainian conflict," wrote Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on her Telegram channel. Lambsdorff had previously commemorated the victims of war in Ukraine and the Middle East at a Christmas concert in Moscow in front of several hundred spectators and described war as "not inevitable".
Zakharova then accused the diplomat of duplicity. After all, the government in Berlin had never used Christmas as an occasion for official calls for peace. "He should be praying in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, not committing blasphemy," she scolded.
Just a few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the German government for a new ice age in a speech in the Kremlin. This would not be beneficial for Germany, Russia or the entire European continent. However, the Russian president did not see that the trigger for this ice age and a significantly worsened situation in Europe was the war of aggression against Ukraine with tens of thousands of deaths. Instead, the 71-year-old complained that the relationship between Berlin and Moscow had been frozen "not on our initiative".
Russia launched its war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, which has since claimed tens of thousands of victims, including many civilians. However, Moscow blames the West for the war. In Russian propaganda, the main reason for the many victims is not its own attack, but the Western arms supplies to the invaded Ukraine.
