Russia evacuates further circle in Kursk region

In a circle in the Kursk region, located near the previously reported Ukrainian advances, thousands of people are being evacuated. This action by the authorities is likely due to air strikes and the probable further advancement of units.

In the Kursk region, partially controlled by Ukrainian troops, the authorities have ordered the evacuation of another circle. People in Gluschkovsky District are being moved to safety, as announced by Governor Alexei Smirnov. Before the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than 17,500 residents were registered in this district west and northwest of the previously reported Ukrainian advances. Smirnov also reported air alerts in the Kursk region due to potential rocket attacks from the Ukrainian side.

"Dear fellow citizens, I ask you to understand the current situation and follow all recommendations from security forces and local authorities," said Smirnov. Gluschkovsky District is about 150 kilometers from the regional capital of Kursk. People in other regions with air alerts are advised to take shelter in bomb shelters or windowless rooms.

More than 120,000 people have been moved to safety so far, according to Smirnov. Russia has declared its border regions of Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk as zones for anti-terrorist operations, allocating more personnel and resources to the military. In the Belgorod region, Moscow has declared a state of emergency, similar to the one in the Kursk area.

Kyiv Reports Progress

According to reports from Russian military bloggers, there are heavy fights between Moscow and Kyiv's troops in parts of the Kursk region. On August 6, Ukraine launched a ground offensive on Russian territory for the first time as part of its defense against the Russian invasion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukrainian soldiers on Russian territory would adhere to international humanitarian law. Kyiv also reported progress in the offensive the previous day, but these reports cannot be independently verified.

According to Russian military reports, around 12,000 Ukrainian soldiers, including mercenaries, have entered the region. Kyiv has not confirmed this. Ukraine aims to increase pressure on war opponent Russia with the offensive to end the fighting and begin peace negotiations. Meanwhile, Russian troops in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk reported capturing more villages.

Given the escalating situation and the Russian military reports, the attack on Ukraine has extended to the Kursk region, resulting in Ukrainian troops launching a ground offensive for the first time on Russian territory. Due to the ongoing conflict and potential air strikes, the authorities in Gluschkovsky District have ordered an evacuation, asking residents to follow safety recommendations and move to bomb shelters or windowless rooms.
