- Russia evacuates further circle in Kursk region

In the Russian region of Kursk, partially controlled by Ukrainian troops, authorities have ordered the evacuation of another district. Residents of the Glushkovsky district, about 10 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, are being evacuated, as announced by Governor Alexei Smirnov. Before the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, over 17,500 people were registered in the district. Smirnov reported another air alert in the Kursk region this morning due to potential rocket attacks from the Ukrainian side.

"Dear fellow countrymen, I ask you to understand the current situation and follow all the recommendations of the security forces and local authorities," said Smirnov. The Glushkovsky district is about 150 kilometers from the regional capital of Kursk. Smirnov urged people in other regions with air alerts to take shelter in bomb shelters or windowless rooms.

So far, over 120,000 people have been evacuated. Russia has declared its border regions of Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk as anti-terrorism operation zones, which also involves more personnel and resources from the military. In the Belgorod region, Moscow has declared a state of emergency, as it did earlier in the Kursk area.

Zelensky: Kyiv's troops respect humanitarian law

According to reports from Russian military bloggers, there are heavy fights between Moscow and Kyiv's troops in parts of the Kursk region. On August 6, Ukraine launched a ground offensive on Russian territory, the first such operation as part of its defense against the Russian invasion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Kyiv's soldiers on Russian territory would adhere to international humanitarian law.

Kyiv also reported progress in the offensive the previous day, but these claims are not independently verifiable. According to Russian military reports, around 12,000 Ukrainian soldiers, including mercenaries, have entered the region. Kyiv has not confirmed this. Ukraine aims to increase pressure on its war opponent Russia with the offensive to end the fighting and start peace negotiations. In contrast, Russian troops in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk reported the capture of more settlements.

The evacuation of the Glushkovsky district is due to the large population of over 17,500 people residing in the area before the invasion. In the context of the evacuation, it's crucial for residents to find safe spaces within their homes, such as windowless rooms or bomb shelters, if they receive air alert notifications.
