Russia delays local elections in seven urban areas of the Kursk region.

Due to the aggressive Ukrainian attack on the Russian border region of Kursk, scheduled local elections in seven communities have been pushed back by Russia. The Central Election Commission agreed with the Kursk Regional Election Commission's suggestion to delay the elections in these areas, as announced on August 10.

The elections were intended to commence once a "foolproof security setup for voters" was established, according to the election commission's statement. Conversely, the remainder of Kursk region will continue with the voting process as scheduled between August 28 and September 8, with the aim of selecting the Kursk region's governor.

The Ukrainian military initiated an offensive within the Russian region of Kursk on August 6, as per their claims, and now reportedly holds control over numerous settlements. On the other hand, according to Russian data, over 120,000 civilians have evacuated the area due to the unrest.

The local elections in the seven affected communities have been postponed due to the ongoing security situation following the Ukrainian attack. Despite the delay, the election process in the remaining part of Kursk region will proceed as planned, aiming to elect the Kursk region's governor between August 28 and September 8.
