Russia arrests alleged saboteur
In November, a freight train derails in Rybnoe, Russia, after an explosion. Investigators have now arrested a dual national who is said to have planted the explosives on the tracks. He is said to have confessed to having been commissioned by Kiev.
According to Russian investigators, they have arrested a man with Russian and Italian citizenship for allegedly planting explosive devices on railroad tracks. According to the investigators, this was done as part of sabotage operations by the Ukrainian military intelligence service.
The man was born in 1988 and lives in Ryazan, which is around 200 kilometers south-east of Moscow. After his arrest, he confessed to having planted homemade bombs on tracks in central Russia on November 11, which derailed a freight train. The man's name was not mentioned in the statement published on Telegram.
During interrogation, the detainee confessed and admitted that he had been recruited by an employee of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's intelligence service in February 2023. He also admitted that he had undergone sabotage training in Latvia with the "direct involvement" of the Latvian secret services.
The information could not be independently verified. Ukraine's military intelligence service has so far been unavailable for comment. On November 11, a freight train derailed near the town of Rybnoe, just 180 kilometers southeast of Moscow.
The alleged saboteur, who confessed to being commissioned by Kiev, is a Russian-Italian dual citizen living in Ryazan. This incident prompted Vladimir Putin to call for enhanced security measures and cooperation between police forces across Russia. The derailment of the freight train in Rybnoe was a significant act of crime, and the involvement of a foreign power in this act is a matter of grave concern for the Russian Justice system.
