Russia announces the downing of 125 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in various Russian territories.
Russian defense authorities announced on Sunday that they had brought down 125 hostile drones in seven different regions. Intense drone activity was reportedly focused on Voronezh, a city in southwestern Russia, where a staggering 67 drones met their end. The Ukrainian governor of Saporizhzhia, Ivan Fedorov, reported that 14 civilians were wounded due to Russian shelling in the city itself.
Governor Alexander Gusev of Voronezh reported 17 drones overhead, resulting in debris crashing into an apartment building and a private house. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Similarly, Governor Vasily Golubev of Rostov stated that debris falling from the aerial onslaught sparked a fire that spread across 20 hectares of forest, but no populated areas were at risk.
Russia has been engaged in a hostile invasion of Ukraine since February 2022. On Saturday, the Ukrainian military issued a warning that Russia might be planning an offensive in the Saporizhzhia region. According to military spokesman Vladyslav Voloshyn, Russian troops were amassing in that direction. Ten separate attacks in Saporizhzhia caused significant damage to a high-rise and several residential buildings, reported Fedorov via Telegram. It's possible that there are still individuals trapped underneath the rubble.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy relayed on the X platform that, "Russia targeted Saporizhzhia today with airborne bombings. Ordinary residential buildings were harmed, and the entrance to a building was destroyed. Infrastructure and railway facilities in the city were also impacted."
The Ukrainian Air Force reported 22 Russian drones fired at the nation through Saturday night, with 15 of them being downed over Sumy, Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions.
In response to the aerial attacks, the Ukrainian Air Force reported downing one of the 22 Russian drones over Odesa region. The intense drone activity in Voronezh continued, as Governor Alexander Gusev mentioned yet another drone being shot down, causing additional damage.
