Russia again attacks Kiev with missiles

After a relatively quiet phase, Russia is once again targeting Kiev. For the second time in a short space of time, Russian missiles fly towards the Ukrainian capital. Several buildings are damaged. A children's hospital was also hit.

Following a heavy Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev, rescue workers had counted 53 injured by Wednesday morning. 20 of the injured, including 2 children, were being treated in hospital, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on Telegram. The other injured were treated as outpatients. According to the city administration, there was no information about casualties.

The Ukrainian air force announced that ten ballistic missiles had been fired at the capital. All ten were intercepted by the air defense. The exact type of the Russian missiles will only be determined when their parts are found, it said. The military information could not be independently verified.

The damage in the city of millions was caused by falling parts of the attacking missiles and anti-aircraft missiles. According to media reports, there was a fire in a nine-storey high-rise building in one of the eastern districts of the city. Eight cars were also burnt out in its courtyard. There were a number of other fires and the windows of many houses burst. According to Klitschko, a children's hospital and a water supply system were also slightly damaged.

According to the military, ten approaching Russian combat drones were also shot down in the night-time air attack on Ukraine. It was the second attack on Kiev within a few days, following an attack on Sunday. Prior to this, the Ukrainian capital had been relatively quiet for some time.

Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over 21 months. The Ukrainian hinterland is attacked almost daily by Russian drones and missiles. The Ukrainian air defense system has now been massively reinforced with Western aid.
