Industrial monument - Rothensee ship lift receives 130,000 euros in funding
The historical ship lift in Rothensee is once again receiving funding for repair work. According to the Infrastructure Ministry, nearly 130,000 Euro will be provided this year. With this, among other things, concrete elements will be repaired and control and technology will be improved. The ship lift, which is now over 85 years old and located in Magdeburg-Rothensee, is one of only four functioning and actually operating lift bridges in Germany. It has significant importance for recreational boating and is also a tourist attraction in the region around the state capital, stated Mayor Simone Borris (partyless). Since 2012, the ship lift has been funded to the tune of approximately 1.6 million Euros.
The Mittelland Canal, a crucial waterway for traffic and shipping in Germany, passes by the historic ship lift in Rothensee. The lift's restoration, with funding from the Infrastructure Ministry amounting to 130,000 Euros this year, will enhance both its functionality for boat traffic and its appeal as a tourist attraction. Despite the remediation work, the need for continued maintenance is apparent as the lift, built in 1935, shows signs of age in Saxony-Anhalt.
