process - Roller skater hit: Accused admits to accident
At the beginning of the trial, the defendant admitted to the accident at the Detmold Regional Court for attempted murder in road traffic. He stated that he had noticed nothing unusual in his lane, until it suddenly made a noise. He had driven a few more kilometers to his workplace and discovered there that a motorbike was crushed in the front of his truck, said the 44-year-old German today on the first day of the trial. He didn't know why he hadn't stopped.
The prosecution accuses him of attempted murder by omission. He is alleged to have rammed a motorbike with his truck on the B239 federal highway in Bad Salzuflen in January 2024 at night. The 18-year-old woman was discovered unconscious on the road by a following car driver who had not witnessed the accident. She sustained brain hemorrhages and bone fractures.
The public prosecutor assumes that the accident perpetrator was intoxicated. He drove on without attending to the victim to avoid detection. With this, the element of concealment of a crime was given, stated the public prosecutor during the reading of the indictment. The trial will continue on July 17.
Dates at the Landgericht on Friday
The defendant's alleged negligence in the Detmold Regional Court's Process (Court) for attempted murder in road traffic raises concerns, as he failed to stop after an accident involving a motorbike in North Rhine-Westphalia's B239 federal highway. The prosecution maintains that the accident was deliberate, as the defendant drove away without checking on the victim or reporting the incident in Detmold.
