Robot dog to spy on Russian positions

The front is infested with mines and recruitments are becoming increasingly difficult: Robotic dogs could provide relief and save soldiers' lives. A British company now offers the four-legged model "Bad One", which appears to be versatile.

Robotic dogs are to support and relieve Ukrainian soldiers in the war against Russia on the front lines. At a secret location in Ukraine, a specialist from a British military solutions company, who wished to remain anonymous and introduced himself as "Yuri", demonstrated the robotic model "BAD One": The quadruped runs, jumps, and sits via remote control command.

Soldiers sent on reconnaissance missions are "usually very well-trained, very experienced people" who are "constantly exposed to risks", said Yuri. The robot could replace these soldiers and thus save lives. The robot's battery has a runtime of two to three hours, according to Yuri.

Given the Ukrainian army's difficulties in recruiting new soldiers after almost two and a half years of war, the robotic dogs could potentially take on important tasks on the front lines and relieve troops. "BAD One" could be used to detect mines and scout Russian positions or carry up to seven kilograms of ammunition or medical supplies to the front.

He could not say how many of the robots are currently in use in Ukraine or where - but he was convinced that the dogs make a difference for the missions as well as for the safety of the soldiers. "For a few thousand dollars, a dog can perform a task that would otherwise require a lot of technology, communication systems, and at least three to five soldiers," he added.

Because it moves on all fours, the robotic dog is difficult for the enemy to detect. If it ever falls into Russian hands, all data can be wiped with an emergency switch, said Yuri.

The British military solutions company is deploying their 'BAD One' robotic dogs to aid Ukrainian soldiers, as they are finding recruitments challenging due to the ongoing war. The Commission could consider the use of these quadrupedal robots on the front lines, as they can replace soldiers in dangerous missions, saving lives and resources.
