Animals - Riese Ramses - Dog from Zossen is record-suspect large
Weighing in at 198.2 pounds and standing over a meter tall: The German Shepherd Ramses from Zossen, Germany, is quite an impression. His owner speculates that his dog could even claim the title of the world's largest living dog. According to his owner, Ramses stands at a height of 98 centimeters.
He wants to "bring the Guinness World Record for the largest living dog to Germany," as the dog owner Patrick Hein stated. If he succeeds, he plans to "have the animal naturally tattooed." At least the paw, the record certificate, and the registration mark he intends to have inked on his skin. "I have given that promise."
Currently, the title of the world's largest living dog is vacant: The previous title holder, the German Shepherd Kevin, with a shoulder height of 97 centimeters, passed away recently. The largest dog that ever lived, according to the Guinness Book, was the Danish Dogge Zeus, with a shoulder height of almost 112 centimeters. Zeus passed away about ten years ago.
However, it may still take some time before Ramses could potentially break the record. "We need to provide all the necessary evidence now," Hein explained. Among other things, this includes three measurements of the shoulder height, from which an average will be calculated. Additionally, there is a longer processing time with Guinness World Records. "It's likely to take around twelve weeks on average."
Even without the title, Ramses is already a local celebrity in Zossen: It's impossible to go for an ordinary walk, his owner explained. "We are always approached." Mostly it's positive, but others cross the street out of fear. "Despite his size, he's a big baby and enjoys being petted."
